Weekend Getaways

Siddapur

This village is 30 Kms away from Coorg and Bangalore is the nearest airport. People also can reach there by train to Mysore city and then by local transports to Siddapur. You can visit Siddapur in between October to January.
                Siddapur will attract you towards its natural beauties full of plantations, wonderful garderns and cool climate. There are numerous temples in this region also to visit for pilgrims like Laxmi Narayan temple, Bankeswar temple, Kondi markamba, Pallibeta (a famous Buddhist temple) nearby.

Tadiandamol

                This is 31 Kms away from Coorg district of Karnataka. Bangalore is the nearest airport and railway station. It takes four to five hours journey from Bangalore to Tadiandamol. People can reach here from both Kerala and Karnataka as it is situated at the Kerala-Karnataka border. You can visit this place in summer to experience most of it.
Tadiandamol is the second higest peak in Karnataka. Trekkers and climbers will have an adventurous time. The natural scenery from the top of the peak is worth noticing. Visitors can have The Nakaland palace and the ancient Padi Igguthappa temple nearby Tadiandamol.

Nagarhole

Nagarhole is close to Mangalore and 90 Kms away from Coorg. You can visit here throughout the year.
The Rajiv Gandhi national park, the forests and the fabulous climate attract the visitors. The Brahmagiri Mountains and Irpu waterfalls are nearby tourist places, you should never dare to miss.

 Places to visit in Coorg

Abbey falls

Abbey falls is one of the most attractions in Coorg whose nature will take your breath away and it is originated from Kaveri River. Abbey falls is 8Km away from Madikeri, 268Kms away from Bangalore, 122Kms away from Mysore. From Madikeri you can travel by road while passing through the beautiful coffee and spices plantations with the roaring of water please you every moment.
There is a hanging bridge opposite to the water fall which you may have a unique and remembering sightseeing experience.

Mallali falls

Mallali waterfall is originated from Kumardhara river. One can have a better experience than the Abbey falls here. During monsoon you will have a heavy water flow and you have to make your pants up and walk through the roads to view the natural beauties at the end of your journey.
Mallali is 62Kms away from Madiker, 20Kms from Sonwarpet.

Irupu falls

The fall also known as Laxman Tirtha fall due to its significance in Ramayan. Irupu will stun you by its natural beauty and it is also a pilgrimage spot. There is a famous Shiva temple, the Rameswara mandir which is located in the banks of the Laxman tirtha river. During the monsoon it is at full capacity.
It is 48Kms away from Vijaypet on the way to Nagarhole national park. It is 260 Km from Bangalore and 120Km from Mysore.

Ommkareswara Temple

This is the historical Shiva temple built by the ruler Lingarajen in 1820. As it is located in the heart of the Madikeri city, there will be no problem for the visitors to find out the place. The architecture of the temple is a mixture of Islamic and Gothic style. There is a dome in the centre of the temple surrounded by four turrets. At  the entrance of the temple there is a copper plate where the history of the temple is plated on and there is a beautiful pool full of eyecatching fishes which makes the temple more worth to visit. It will indulge with its divine powers and beautiful scenery.

Raja’s Seat

Raja’s seat is named on the Kings ruled here in Madikeri as they were spent romantic times with their queens by sitting on a four pillar structure and watching the stunning and beautiful sunrise and sunset moments. Visitors can also experience these beautiful moments. The place adds on to its beauty and breath taking scenery by its surrounding gardens, misty mountains and artificial fountains. Children can enjoy riding on toy trains. It’s a complete family entertaining journey for the visitors.

Namdroling Monastery

Namdroling Monastery is just a few hours journey from Bangalore and Mysore is home to about 5000 buddhist monks and nuns. This is the spiritual place to visit here in Coorg. This temple is a centre of pure upholding of the teachings of Buddha.

Talakaveri

Takalaveri is the place where the holy Kaveri river is originated. There are ponds, Brahmagiri hills, temple of local goddess Kaveriamma nearby to visit. Brahmagiri hills is on right beside of the temple having a series steps which lead to top the hill to experience the 360* view of the surrounding hills.

Dubare Elephant Camp

Dubare Elephant Camp is well maintained and organised by the Forest department of Karnataka and the local jungle resorts associations. The camp is 100Kms away from Mysore city. Visitors can enjoy an amazing family times with boat rides and interacting and travelling with the 150 trained elephants.

Things to do in Coorg

Angling

Visitors can have adventurous activities like angling here in the banks of the river Kaveri. They can throw in their lines in the hopes of hook species like Ladyfish and Mahaseer. Valnur fishing camp is the wellknown fishing spot near Kushalnagar on the banks of Kaveri. Here the permission and license are given by the anglers from the Coorg Wildlife society.

Handgliding

You can have wonderful beauties of Coorg from up above. You can view the majestic  Brahmagiri hills, beautiful gardens etc. from the top, In coorg various handgliding organisations are there who can teach you and guide you towards this adventurous step.

Hockey tournament

More than 50 representatives from Coorg in international hockey out of which 7 participants in Olympics, recognises a serious enthusiasm towards the sport by the Kodavas. Every year around 200 families participate in the annual hockey tournament which is one of the longest field hockey tournaments around the world and recognized by guiness world records and Limca book of records. Visitors should witness this highly enthusiastic tournament organised once in a year.
